The Monsanto Story….

…though I really can’t vouch for it.  Found this on the internet while reading about the demonstrations against Monsanto yesterday in 400 cities around the world.  The protest was aimed at Genetically Modified food but one commentor filled in some history on Monsanto I didn’t know.

A link to one story about the demonstrations follows, but first this:

John F Queeny started Monsanto in 1901 – with a chemical byproduct from COAL TAR that tasted sweet.  They had only one customer – Coca Cola.  Doctors prescribed the cocaine beverage to many… and this coal tar sweetener is called saccharin. 

An early user was Pres. Ted Roosevelt – diabetic and overweight.  A book and film called THE JUNGLE came out in 1906 about dangers and abuses in the meat packing industry – Public outcry caused Roosevelt to create the early groups that evoled into the FDA and USDA.  When one scientist asked about Coal Tar safety and saccharin it was Roosevelt – a user – who stopped the investigation.  Saving Monsanto from complete ruin since that was their only product.

Since that time Monsanto has aligned itself with every administration – Democratic or Republican.  No matter who you vote for, they are ALL on the side of Monsanto.

Again, this story is unverified….except for the bit about both Democrats and Republican politicians being in bed with the chemical giant.  That is the biggest scandal in Washington, even today.
