Family,  Gerrish

Is it alright to be jealous….

photo….of your own grandson?

Church has the summer experience of a lifetime….working with Jim Gerrish at his Idaho ranch.  We’re going to miss his help here and we’re also a little worried that he’s going to want to change everything when he gets back.

Wooz is more worried her grand-baby is going to get lost in those mountains back there.  And his experience has been limited to our docile Devon herd of 50.  Now he’ll be helping watch over thousands of cattle.

Seriously, Jim is a rare combination of thinker and do-er.  Church is now thinking he wants a career in forages.  Whatever he decides, time with the Gerrish’s is going to make him a better man.

Hopefully, this first picture will be followed by many more.  Maybe even some commentary.

I would think the average rainfall figures in Idaho versus where you live should provide an interesting contrast in forage growth.

As long as he doesn’t come back wanting one of those giant pivot irrigators. They use those….and also flood pastures with the snow melt.

Is your land flat enough for one? Do you have an abundant source of water? Do you have 3 phase power or lots of diesel fuel? I use big Nelson guns, can run 3 at a time on a pto pump, and they are on a movable tripod that adjust for my hills.
