Well, this is depressing….
….and it’s only a partial list. Doesn’t anyone every wonder why we’re spending more and more on health care….and our population is increasingly less well? Let’s start with obesity, autism, ADD in our kids. You think maybe?? http://nypost.com/2016/07/10/the-truth-behind-how-were-scammed-into-eating-phony-food/ I also have to shake my head when people say they don’t eat red meat….but choose chicken and fish instead.

New on the scene….
….well new to me anyway. Tammi Jonas is an Australian farmer (cattle and pigs) who departed vegetarianism several years ago to become not only an omnivore but a butchers. And not incidentally, an advocate for “natural” farming. Ms Jonas recently attended a pork producers meeting in Australia and found her worst fears confirmed. Pigs are a big business with the dirty work done by little farmers but the ground rules dictated by Big Ag and Big Pharma. The situation is exactly the same here in the States. Big Pharma, Big Food… who really controls the pig industry?

Eat. More. Fat.
….they’re having the same difficulty in England as here in the States….breaking down the “settled science” that fat makes you fat. In fact, the right fat makes you thin…and healthy. http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/672772/eat-more-fat-Britain-obesity-health-epidemic-cholesterol-NHS

What is it about the Amish….
…..their life-style is not for everyone…but we certainly pay a price for our “progress”. Thanks to Lois Aylestock of Blue Ridge Meats for the link. http://theshrug.com/people-always-laugh-at-them/

I laugh….
….when I hear people say they’ve given up eating red meat….in favor of chicken! http://wisemindhealthybody.com/nick-meyer/01-facts-about-chickens/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=postplanner&utm_source=facebook.com Thanks to Lois Aylestock of Blue Ridge Meats for the link.

I’m from the government….
….and I’m here to protect you. Not! Awhile back, grass fed meat producers were making some progress with the government in establishing minimum standards for labeling. Nothing radical; you still weren’t going to be told whether the meat you ate came from cows fattened on hormones and antibiotics. Well that lasted until grass fed meat passed the 1% point in market share. Then Big Ag (and Big Drugs) teamed up to get rid of the grass fed label. The same health benefits of grass fed meat are found in grass fed dairy…and now those dairy farmers are going through the same (futile) process. Health blogger Dr. Joseph Mercola explains. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2016/04/19/grass-fed-milk-yogurt-new-label.aspx…

….tough attack on vegetarianism. Perhaps a bit over-the-top, but not more than the criticism of us omnivores. http://www.molonlabemedia.com/2016/04/29/vegetarians-unhealthy-mentally-disturbed/#

Forty years too late….
….just think of all the hamburger you didn’t eat (trying to be good). A University of Minnesota study back in the 70s demonstrated that you can lower your cholesterol by cutting back on beef alright. But the people with the higher cholesterol actually lived longer. The old study was just discovered and published. More settled science bites the dust! https://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/2016/04/18/breaking-news-from-1973-burgers-are-good-for-you/?singlepage=true

A special place in hell….
….reserved for Monsanto, I trust. Now they’ve found Roundup in California wines….not some of them….all of them. Even the organic wines! Thanks to Church Matthews for the link. http://naturalsociety.com/glyphosate-california-wines-tested-6795/

Beware “settled science”….
….I do try to stay away from politics here…there’s enough everywhere else. But with the increasing dogmatism (okay, fascism) in academia today it seems clear a lot of people are going to get hurt in the name of “settled science”. All thought and speech really is being regulated now among the “educated”….and the rest of us will soon be caught in the net. Our concentration here is on food…and nutrition. And this article raises the question of how many people have been killed by “settled science”. http://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/apr/07/the-sugar-conspiracy-robert-lustig-john-yudkin
