Bywood Cracker,  Bywood Jasper,  Cleave,  England

Stop 3….

….20140421_121Juliet and Chris Cleave continue to make great strides with their beautiful herd.  Juliet has joined the British Devon Society’s Council (Board) and is now hard at work planning next year’s world Devon conference in England.

As we mentioned in our previous post, Bywood Jasper has several sons “assigned” to Traditional Devon’s English partners. Bywood Cracker is one of those and we got to see him with his young son.

As a big admirer of what you and your
and your partners are acheiving, I’d
like to wish you success getting Cracker
semen to the US and enquire if it would
be possible to purchase a few straws for
our newly formed Organic Stud farmed
Holistically in New Zealand, regards Steve H.

Steve, sadly, Bywood Cracker did not pass his Schmallenburg virus test and we had to abandon hopes for importing his semen. He was certainly one of the best bulls we found in our trips through England. That herd has now been disbanded so this is a genetic line that is disappearing. One of our major goals has been to preserve traditional Devon genetics and this was a major disappointment.

Thank’s for the prompt reply, I’ve discovered some Rotokaw 861
semen at the local AI centre, so will probably use some this spring before putting our recently purchased 5 year old bull out.
His sireline goes back to Brightly Diamond 6th so there is a bit
of heritage to go on with. Regards Steve H.
