Turkey Bowl VI…

Our annual Turkey Bowl has become a fixture of our family weekend.  And the play has improved each year, mostly because our grandchildren have moved up to high school and college.

Grandpa, in the center, has also moved up to great-grandpa and has been assigned a more limited role to a few plays as nose guard and center.  This is a recognition not of his skill but his singular lack of mobility.

Son-in-law Paul, the quarterback of our team, is the prime force in organizing the game and always has a few trick plays up his sleeve, which insure that our team will continue its losing streak.  We were further set back when 10-year old grandson Luis decided he’d rather fish.

Still, we have a likely-looking prospect coming along.  Great-grandson Rowan made his first visit to Thistle Hill and took all the new sights in stride.  The beautiful young woman behind us, almost as big as Rowan, is his mother Ashley.

Rowan is quite a remarkable young man, of course.  Almost 11 pounds at birth, he’d be a testimony to grass fed beef if he’d ever had any.  I have no problem with the idea, I’m a great-grandfather.  Dealing with the thought that my daughter is a grandmother, is a bit more difficult.

And since this is, after all, my blog, I will indulge myself with one more picture.  Believe me, there are more.  When I counted my blessings this year, Rowan and his mom, Ashley, were right at the top of the list!  Rowan’s dad, my grandson, is pretty special, too.
