Don’t look at me….
….that’s the government’s attitude to the startling news that we’re all fat, and getting fatter.
The study comes from the Center for Disease Control and documents the weighty news and what obesity is doing to our health (and health costs). But, of course, the tone is “tsk tsk” and no recognition that government programs such as the menus of school lunches, food stamps, the farm program, and food pyramids have been almost as much to blame as Coke and McDonald’s.
Here’s the report:

Being forced to travel a lot recently, I have been a reluctant draftee into the army of Americans who eat out half the time. It is essentially impossible to control your weight that way.
It’s not only that it’s easy to “super-size” the fries and drinks (and what kid won’t) but even in better restaurants you’re a pariah if you don’t have more rolls and potatoes with sour cream etc with your meal. I have finally found one particular steak house where I can order a small, six-ounce filet* and just a salad and that’s all. But, honest, when they see me coming they put me, not in the dining room, but in a corner of the bar. It’s ok; I meet more interesting people there.
*No, sadly, not grass fed.
